What To Wear
What To Pack
Pack breathable clothes, sun protection, and a cover up for Nassau shops and restaurants. Cruise dining can have its own dress code, so check your sailing separately from a beach day.
Money And Payments
Cash And Cards
Cards usually work at hotels, larger restaurants, and established visitor businesses. Keep small cash for tips and smaller island purchases. The Bahamian dollar is equal in value to the US dollar, and US dollars are widely used. A cruise account does not replace a payment method for spending ashore.
Travel Cards
A travel card can be useful for spending ashore, but it does not replace your cruise account or onboard payment rules. Check whether the terminal bills in Bahamian or US dollars.
Tipping Culture
Restaurant gratuities are often already added. If none is included, around 15% is customary. Check the bill before adding another tip. Example: on a US$40 restaurant bill without gratuity, 15% is US$6. A ship’s prepaid gratuity does not cover a restaurant ashore.
Getting Around
Getting Around Locally
In Nassau, taxis suit direct trips; jitney buses serve parts of New Providence. Paradise Island is connected by bridges. Agree the taxi fare and keep your ship’s return time handy.
Traveling Between Stops
An island name matters more than a Bahamas label. A Nassau port stop does not give you time to casually add another island. Use confirmed flights or ferries for a separate island stay.
Staying Connected
Using T Mobile In Bahamas
Bahamas is listed for international roaming on eligible T Mobile plans. Data allowances, speeds, and call charges depend on your plan. Check before you travel.
Mobile Data For This Trip
Check the ship’s maritime roaming charges before switching mobile data on. A Bahamas land plan and onboard internet are different purchases. Download Nassau directions before leaving the ship.
Where To Stay
Choosing Your Area
Nassau suits a city and port base; Cable Beach suits a beach stay; Paradise Island is a separate resort choice. My Bahamas experience was an MSC cruise stop, not a hotel inspection.
Before You Arrive
Before You Fly
Cruise and flight entry rules can differ by nationality and itinerary. Follow your cruise line’s document instructions and Bahamas immigration guidance. Ship time and local time may differ.
Sources And My Visit
Practical information was researched and checked on 22 October 2026. My reviews describe my own visits. Area comparisons are planning advice, not hotels I claim to have inspected. Entry advice must match your passport, residency, route, and travel date.
