What To Wear
What To Pack
Pack for the season and the specific religious site. Covered shoulders and knees are useful in Jerusalem’s religious quarters; a beach outfit suits the beach rather than every part of town.
Money And Payments
Cash And Cards
Cards and contactless payments are widely available at hotels, shops, and restaurants. Keep shekels for tips, market purchases, and smaller businesses.
Travel Cards
Check shekel conversion fees and carry a cash backup for tips. A card that works in a city shop does not establish payment access along every route.
Tipping Culture
Table service restaurant tipping is customary. Around 10% to 15% is a useful guide. Example: on a ₪200 meal, 10% to 15% is ₪20 to ₪30 when service is not included. Confirm whether the server can receive a card tip or prefers cash.
Getting Around
Getting Around Locally
Many regular public transport services stop for Shabbat from Friday evening to Saturday evening. Tel Aviv has a separate weekend transport network; do not assume that covers every city or airport transfer.
Traveling Between Stops
Check current route access before booking intercity travel. A map’s driving time does not account for security restrictions, checkpoints, or a service suspended during holidays.
Staying Connected
Using T Mobile In Israel
Israel is listed for international roaming on eligible T Mobile plans. Data allowances, speeds, and call charges depend on your plan. Check before you travel.
Mobile Data For This Trip
Keep your address and entry documentation offline. Check that a plan covers each territory you intend to enter; coverage and roaming arrangements can change across a crossing.
Where To Stay
Choosing Your Area
Choose a base around the places currently accessible and the transport operating on your travel days. I have not published a current hotel shortlist; a past visit does not confirm today’s conditions.
Before You Arrive
Before You Fly
Eligible visa exempt visitors need ETA IL approval; other passports need the appropriate visa. Read current official travel advice and airport updates as well. Jerusalem or West Bank plans can require additional access checks.
Sources And My Visit
Practical information was researched and checked on 22 October 2026. My reviews describe my own visits. Area comparisons are planning advice, not hotels I claim to have inspected. Entry advice must match your passport, residency, route, and travel date.
