What To Wear
What To Pack
Loose clothes, sun protection, and walking shoes suit Petra. Bring a warm layer for Wadi Rum nights; desert temperatures can drop sharply. Religious visits need shoulders and knees covered.
Money And Payments
Cash And Cards
Cards usually work at hotels, larger restaurants, and established tourist businesses. Keep dinars for taxis, market stalls, smaller local stops, and tipping.
Travel Cards
Check Jordanian dinar conversion fees. Keep small notes for taxis and hotel help even if major hotels accept your travel card.
Tipping Culture
Small cash tips are customary for guides and hotel help. Check restaurant service charges before adding extra. For a guide or porter, separate the agreed service price from your thank you. Think in dinars and local drink or meal value; a group’s full day guide deserves a different budget from one bag.
Getting Around
Getting Around Locally
In Amman, taxis are practical but hills and traffic change short journeys. Ask for the meter or agree the fare before leaving. Pin the correct entrance rather than just the attraction’s name.
Traveling Between Stops
Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea are separate stops. Compare a scheduled bus with a driver for your route, and arrange the return journey before leaving town. A Jordan Pass does not include transport.
Staying Connected
Using T Mobile In Jordan
Jordan is listed for international roaming on eligible T Mobile plans. Data allowances, speeds, and call charges depend on your plan. Check before you travel.
Mobile Data For This Trip
Download Petra and desert pickup details before leaving Amman. Do not expect a Wadi Rum camp to have the same signal or WiFi as a city hotel. Confirm the driver meeting point in advance.
Where To Stay
Choosing Your Area
Amman suits city days, Wadi Musa suits an early Petra start, and a Wadi Rum camp is a separate desert stay. Check what a camp includes, especially transfers, meals, and bathrooms.
Before You Arrive
Before You Fly
Jordan Pass visa benefits depend on eligibility and stay conditions; it is not a visa for every passport or every border. Check the official FAQ before buying, especially for a land crossing.
Sources And My Visit
Practical information was researched and checked on 22 October 2026. My reviews describe my own visits. Area comparisons are planning advice, not hotels I claim to have inspected. Entry advice must match your passport, residency, route, and travel date.
