What To Wear
What To Pack
Bring shoes for limestone streets and steps, a sunhat for exposed waterfront walks, and a covering layer for churches. Winter can be windy and wet even though Malta is a Mediterranean island.
Money And Payments
Cash And Cards
Cards are useful around Sliema, St Julian’s, and larger visitor businesses. Keep euros for small purchases and optional tips. Buy the appropriate bus or ferry ticket rather than assuming a bank card payment also gives you a transport pass.
Travel Cards
Check euro conversion fees. Your ordinary bank card and a local bus travel product are different payment arrangements.
Tipping Culture
A small tip for good restaurant service is appreciated. Read the bill for a service charge first. For a small café bill, rounding up is a simple optional thank you. For hotel luggage, think about the effort and a local drink’s value in euros rather than automatically applying a restaurant percentage.
Getting Around
Getting Around Locally
Buses connect many visitor areas, and ferries can save a slow road journey around the harbours. Check the actual sailing, weather, and last departure rather than assuming a ferry runs all night.
Traveling Between Stops
Malta and Gozo are separate islands. Plan the ferry and onward Gozo transport together. A day on Comino is another boat outing, not the same journey as a hotel transfer to Gozo.
Staying Connected
Using T Mobile In Malta
Malta is listed for international roaming on eligible T Mobile plans. Data allowances, speeds, and call charges depend on your plan. Check before you travel.
Mobile Data For This Trip
Keep ferry and bus alternatives saved, especially for an evening return to Sliema or St Julian’s. Verify the home plan’s Malta allowance instead of assuming every European roaming package includes the same benefits.
Where To Stay
Choosing Your Area
Sliema suits waterfront access and ferry connections; St Julian’s suits restaurants and nightlife. If quiet sleep matters, check the exact street near Paceville before booking. My reviews cover specific places in both areas.
Before You Arrive
Before You Fly
Malta is in Schengen. Use current EU entry guidance for your passport and overall permitted stay. If renting a car, remember that driving is on the left.
Sources And My Visit
Practical information was researched and checked on 22 October 2026. My reviews describe my own visits. Area comparisons are planning advice, not hotels I claim to have inspected. Entry advice must match your passport, residency, route, and travel date.
St Julian’s
The Londoner Hotel St. Julian's
Perfect place right in the heart of the city! You can make a right and head to all the clubs or make a left and head over to the water! Free breakfast, and cute rooms with the vibe of London!
Mr.Dick Paceville
This place is so funny! It was right under my hotel so figured I’d come check it out. They also offer dick shots that you have to take while handcuffed!
Sliema
The Londoner Hotel Sliema
SO BEAUTIFUL! This hotel is right on the water and when I tell you the VIEWS are unreal! Check out the videos I posted!
