What To Wear
What To Pack
Bring shoes with grip for polished paving and steps. Lagos beach days need sun protection, while Atlantic wind can make evenings cooler than expected. Keep beachwear for the beach.
Money And Payments
Cash And Cards
Cards work at hotels, supermarkets, and many established restaurants. Carry euros for smaller Lagos cafés, local markets, and a modest cash thank you. A transit or toll payment is a separate arrangement from paying a restaurant bill.
Travel Cards
Compare euro conversion fees and keep a cash backup. Rental road tolls may require a separate company arrangement rather than an ordinary card tap.
Tipping Culture
Round up a casual bill or leave a modest tip for good table service. An American style 20% is not the standard. Example: rounding a €9.50 café bill to €10 leaves €0.50. For a proper meal, choose a modest thank you for good service rather than assuming a US style 20% is required.
Getting Around
Getting Around Locally
Lagos is walkable for central stops, but cliffs, beaches, and accommodation outside town may need transport. Check the actual walking route rather than the straight line distance.
Traveling Between Stops
CP trains connect major mainland routes; an Algarve journey can require a change before Lagos. Compare train and coach timings against your arrival at Faro rather than assuming a direct airport train.
Staying Connected
Using T Mobile In Portugal
Portugal is listed for international roaming on eligible T Mobile plans. Data allowances, speeds, and call charges depend on your plan. Check before you travel.
Mobile Data For This Trip
Download Lagos walking routes and your accommodation entrance instructions. If hiring a car, keep the toll instructions saved alongside the rental agreement rather than relying on a later email.
Where To Stay
Choosing Your Area
Lagos old town suits restaurants and evenings on foot; a beach stay may put you farther from town. Check hills, parking, and the final walk with luggage before choosing a room.
Before You Arrive
Before You Fly
Portugal is in Schengen. Count days across the whole zone and check current EU border systems. For a road trip, confirm the rental company’s toll payment arrangements before driving away.
Sources And My Visit
Practical information was researched and checked on 22 October 2026. My reviews describe my own visits. Area comparisons are planning advice, not hotels I claim to have inspected. Entry advice must match your passport, residency, route, and travel date.
