What To Wear
What To Pack
Pack for the region and season: inland summer heat, a northern coast trip, and a winter city break need different layers. Keep swimwear for the beach and covered shoulders for church visits.
Money And Payments
Cash And Cards
Cards are useful at hotels, shops, and most established restaurants. Keep euros for a small café, market purchase, or voluntary round up. A metro or airport ticket can have its own purchase and validation rules.
Travel Cards
Check euro conversion fees and the terms of any cash withdrawal. Keep a little cash for small purchases rather than accepting every terminal conversion offer.
Tipping Culture
Leave small change at a casual café or tapas stop. For excellent service at a nicer restaurant, a modest tip is welcome. Example: rounding a €4.50 café bill to €5 is a voluntary thank you. A tip screen does not turn a casual tapas stop into a required 20% tip.
Getting Around
Getting Around Locally
Madrid and Barcelona have their own metro and ticket systems. Check the airport supplement or airport ticket rules separately. Buy tickets from official machines or outlets, not someone approaching the queue.
Traveling Between Stops
High speed rail links many mainland cities, including Madrid and Barcelona. Check train specific conditions. The Balearic and Canary Islands need a flight or sea journey; a mainland rail pass will not get you there.
Staying Connected
Using T Mobile In Spain
Spain is listed for international roaming on eligible T Mobile plans. Data allowances, speeds, and call charges depend on your plan. Check before you travel.
Mobile Data For This Trip
Save train tickets and accommodation entry instructions offline. Check the local timetable before a late dinner; the last public transport trip can matter more than the distance back to the hotel.
Where To Stay
Choosing Your Area
A central base near a useful station can save daily rides. Check evening street noise and air conditioning for summer stays. These are researched planning suggestions; my personal hotel shortlist is not published.
Before You Arrive
Before You Fly
Spain is in Schengen. Check current EU border systems and count your whole Schengen stay. Reserve popular timed attractions through their official sites rather than arriving with only a general city plan.
Sources And My Visit
Practical information was researched and checked on 22 October 2026. My reviews describe my own visits. Area comparisons are planning advice, not hotels I claim to have inspected. Entry advice must match your passport, residency, route, and travel date.
