What To Wear
What To Pack
My visit was about 45 hours. Pack light clothes for warm coastal days, a cover up for town and religious settings, and a layer for cooler evenings. Inland and winter trips need a different forecast.
Money And Payments
Cash And Cards
Cards are useful at hotels, larger restaurants, and established shops. Keep dinars for markets, smaller cafés, local transport, and tips.
Travel Cards
Check dinar withdrawal costs and keep official exchange receipts. You cannot take Tunisian dinars out of Tunisia, so do not withdraw a large unused balance at the end.
Tipping Culture
Small dinar tips are appreciated for restaurant and hotel service. Round up taxi fares. Use small dinar coins or notes for a modest thank you. For luggage, increase it for a heavy bag or stairs. Settle the service price separately so an optional tip is not confused with the fare.
Getting Around
Getting Around Locally
Tunis has trams, buses, and taxis. Use the meter where appropriate and confirm the destination. A ride to a coastal suburb is different from a quick central trip.
Traveling Between Stops
Regional trains and shared louage transport serve different routes. Check the actual departure point and schedule; do not build a tight airport return around an uncertain final connection.
Staying Connected
Using T Mobile In Tunisia
Tunisia is listed for international roaming on eligible T Mobile plans. Data allowances, speeds, and call charges depend on your plan. Check before you travel.
Mobile Data For This Trip
Save the hotel address in French or Arabic if available. Have your pickup details ready before leaving the airport, and keep the return route downloaded during a short stop.
Where To Stay
Choosing Your Area
A Tunis city base suits the medina and museums; a northern coastal base suits a different rhythm. Check how you will get back in the evening. These are planning suggestions from a short visit.
Before You Arrive
Before You Fly
Check current passport and visa requirements rather than an old package holiday identity card exception. Tunisia uses dinars, and currency rules differ from euro destinations; keep exchange receipts where required.
Sources And My Visit
Practical information was researched and checked on 22 October 2026. My reviews describe my own visits. Area comparisons are planning advice, not hotels I claim to have inspected. Entry advice must match your passport, residency, route, and travel date.
